How Crypto Has Changed My Everyday Habits

One crypto post, one-non crypto post. We all need some balance in life, eh?

Anyway, for people who used to follow me on FB, due to some login issues and FB requiring KYC (which I refuse to give), I will not be updating the FB page anymore.

Do subscribe to my blog (using your email address) if you want to receive notifications of new posts. Otherwise, just pop by once in a while if you still enjoy reading my stuff.

Looking back to a year ago (when I still have not even bought any crypto ever), my lifestyle and some habits have changed drastically. Here’s a short list and let’s see if it resonates with anybody.

1. Pricing Everything In USD

Price of $BTC? 57,000 USD

The plate of char kway teow I had this afternoon? 3 USD

Monthly utility bills? 100 USD

The new ergonomic chair I bought? 1,000 USD

Most of my investment yield comes from crypto investments and it’s not even close. My stocks and bonds barely yield 4 digits in SGD every month.

I am interacting with USD on my laptop and phone so often that I am pricing real life items in USD these days.

The Mrs finds this rather quirky.

2. Losing All Interest In TradFi

Or should it be Tardfi?

Even as recent as half a year ago (not deep into Defi yet), I saw crypto as a hedge to my traditional portfolio of stocks and bonds.

6 months on, it is now the opposite.

I am still keeping most of my stocks and bonds but their purpose is more as a hedge to my crypto portfolio. In case the governments decide to shut down the internet or something along this line to stop crypto.

All of the unproductive assets (paper gold, physical foreign currencies) have been converted to crypto.

The ratio of using coingecko to brokerage apps is probably 10:1. Yes, I still check brokerage prices to check if the China bloodletting has stopped.

3. Converted From Facebook To Twitter

I am a millennial but I have been a very slow convert on social media. My behaviour is probably closer to a Gen X, argh.

If I touch my heart, FB has not been usable since 2 years ago (so much ads) and I should have pivoted to something like Twitter then.

I have a few Twitter accounts for different purposes. The main one for Crypto Twitter, another one for tradfi and one more for soccer/entertainment. I almost don’t post anything and is largely a consumer on all the accounts.

But maybe, just maybe, it’s time to shift from this blog and start all over again on Twitter with an anon account.

4. More Time Spent On YouTube Than Netflix

I cannot catch up with the number of Crypto Youtube channels that I subscribe to. Period.

Previously, I would have to listen to every word and maybe even repeat some parts to understand the whole conversation but these days, I rely on the time stamps and fast forward parts that I find repetitive.

I am still no expert but the learning curve is becoming less steep. Maybe the innovation in the space is dropping and this is a top signal? *Shrugs*

In 2020, most of my free time was spent on Netflix and PS4. In 2021, most of my free time was spent on YouTube and Twitter. Basically crypto was all-consuming.

Some semblance of balance is coming back though as I am making it a point to watch a movie or two every week with the Mrs.

I highly recommend The Jungle Cruise on Disney Plus. Probably the best wholesome family movie I have watched since the The Greatest Showman. Especially loved the puns.

So yes, I have ended this post with some alpha. =p

Thanks for reading.
